A Wilkes School education is about more than classroom learning.

We’re a community that gives our students the tools they need to lead productive, fulfilling lives. We offer the warmth and personal attention of a small school, the exhilaration and enrichment of the city, and an academic program of proven quality. The diverse backgrounds of our students make us one of Baltimore’s most heterogeneous schools.

The Wilkes School takes advantage of its location by utilizing cultural resources in the neighborhood such as the Lyric Opera House and the Eubie Blake Center.

Community Voices

Our children are better citizens — of the world! — because the school chooses to be a good citizen of its City. They have learned to reach out and engage with their surroundings by being on foot and interacting first-hand with the people, places, and things that make Baltimore, well, Baltimore.

There is so much that we appreciate after seven years at Wilkes: weekly visits to the Enoch Pratt Free Library, walking to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, student-driven performances and productions staged throughout Mt. Vernon, curated walks through the Walters Art Museum, small classes, caring teachers, and a castle of a school that our children are convinced they own.
